MeBattery Progress Meeting held in Bochum

On 15-16 April 2024 the MeBattery consortium was happy to be hosted by Wolfgang Schuhmann and Carla Santana Santos and their team for their bi-annual Progress Meeting in Bochum, Germany.

With two years into the project, meetings with the 16 participants from the six institutions involved in MeBattery always have a very homely atmosphere where everybody feels welcome. This doesn’t prevent us from engaging in tough discussions about the research and science covered in the project. In the end, we are all working together towards the common goal of advancing the development of the bi-phasic redox flow battery. At this meeting, discussions circled around the toxicity, stability, compatibility and performance of the different chemical compounds that will be integrated into the first prototype of the mediated biphasic battery under development. Risks were reassessed and new contingency plans proposed, aimed at achieving all the milestones in due time.

The meeting also was the occasion to say good-bye to our colleague Mario Palacios from Institute of Science and Technology Austria who has been awarded a postdoctoral junior leader fellowship by “La Caixa Foundation” and will leave the MeBattery consortium by the end of May to join the University of Barcelona.

We also discussed the upcoming 3rd MeBattery workshop which will take place in Madrid in October 2024 and a joint publication by project partners IMDEA Energy, Ruhr-University Bochum, Universidade de Aveiro and Universidad de Burgos on enhancing the stability of aqueous membrane-free flow battery.
